Philippines and global value chains

Philippine economics journalist, Rene E. Ofreneo, offers some interesting analysis of the Philippines' challenges for participating in global value chains.

The Philippines faces many challenges to gain better value from global value chains (GVCs), according to Philippine economics journalist, Rene E. Ofreneo. It seems to be stuck or trapped at the middle level of the GVC system for electronics and auto parts production. It is not scaling up in the value chain.

In a fascinating article from the Philippines Business Mirror, Ofreneo offers some policy proposals for the Philippine government, drawing on Chapter 4 from John West's book, "Asian Century ... on a Knife-edge".
